As part of its nationwide campaign on sanitation in Islamic Communities, Zoomlion Ghana. Limited has organised a sensitisation programme for the Islamic Communities in the Koforidua Municipality.
The forum, which attracted a lot of Muslims from the New Juaben  Municipality, was addressed by officials from Zoomlion as well as highly respected leaders of the Muslim communities, including the  renowned Islamic Theologian and Educationist, Sheikh Ishaak Nuamah and the Imam of the Koforidua Central Mosque.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ernest Kusi, The Regional Operations Supervisor for Zoomlion touched on the need for partnership between Zoomlion and the Islamic Communities in championing the cause of clean and environmentally-healthy communities in the Municipality.
He added that Islamic Zongos are rife with activities that have the tendency to generate waste in the country and urged Muslims to keep their surroundings clean to ensure healthy living.
Mr. Kusi also encouraged Muslims to organise periodic clean-ups in their surroundings, become watch-dogs on cleanliness for their communities and also imbibe a strict adherence to the principles of personal hygiene.
On his part, Sheikh Ishaak Nuamah stated that attitudinal change towards the environment is one of the main solutions to the myriad of sanitation problems in the country, saying that environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility for the government, private companies and the people of various communities and thus asked his fellow Muslims to take the lead in that direction.
He went on to say that Islam is a clean religion and the Holy Quran admonishes its believers to live a clean and a healthy life in neat surroundings and urged them to abide by the teachings of the Holy Quran.
Mr. Ernest Asiedu Caesar, Assistant Communications Officer for Zoomlion, emphasised that cleanliness of the country is not the sole responsibility of the Government. “Everyone of us, especially the youth of the country has a unique responsibility to contribute significantly towards the improvement of our environmental sanitation situation,” he stressed.
He added that the youth are the most important resource in the society that could be mobilised for national development, enjoining everyone to take part in ensuring that their surroundings are kept clean.
The Eastern Regional Chief Imam, Yusif Hamdani Suleman, commended Sheikh Nuamah and the officials from Zoomlion for the initiative to educate Muslim Communities on the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and promised that he and his people would put into practice what they had been taught.
